Thanks for your comment. I agree. It's good to be read and if constructive, we can learn from them and get better. Or in the example I gave, repurpose ugly reviews in to nasty prose.
this writing course I am a member of, I got one critical comment about a line of dialogue out of 15 people in the class...- so I looked at it from her point of view, changed the line, and it was better. more subtle. Everyone else just said it was dark and horrible but very engaging - so I loved that of course, but none of the prasie made it better.
